SREBRENIZA

 

L’11 luglio le truppe paramilitari serbo-bosniache di Mladi? deportano e uccidono l’intera popolazione maschile dell’enclave musulmana di Srebrenica. Più di ottomila uomini, ragazzi e bambini vengono uccisi e buttati in fosse comuni. Dal 1996 l’International Commission of Missing Persons analizza e ricompone le ossa dei resti riesumati dalle fosse comuni per restituire un nome a ciascuna vittima. Il Memoriale di Potocari è stato inaugurato nel 2003 e commemora il Genocidio di Srebrenica. Le bare vengono depositate per due giorni, prima della sepoltura, all'interno di un capannone di un ex fabbrica di batterie, scelta ai tempi della guerra come base dall'Onu, dove si rifugiarono ventimila profughi bosniaci e dove cominciò il massacro. La cerimonia ha due scopi fondamentali ed importanti: il primo non farci dimenticare, il secondo restituire i resti dei dispersi ai propri cari. Loro non hanno dimenticato ed è per questo che sono andata lì, per portare una testimonianza di quello che è successo, del loro dolore, ma anche della loro forza. E soprattutto perché anche noi non dobbiamo dimenticare.

 

On July 11th 1995 the Serb-Bosnian paramilitary troops of Mladi? deported and killed the whole masculine population of the Moslem enclave of Srebrenica. More than eight thousand men, boys and children were killed and thrown into mass graves. From 1996 the International Commission of Missing Persons analyzed and recomposed the bones of the exhume remains from the mass graves to give back the name of the victims. The Memorial of Potocari was inaugurated in 2003 that it commemorates the Genocide of Srebrenica. The coffins were deposited for two days, before the burial, inside a depot of an ex-factory of batteries, chosen in the war times as a base from the U.N., where twenty thousand Bosnian refugees took shelter and where the massacre started. The ceremony has two fundamental and important purposes: the first one is to not forget and the second is to give back the remains of the missing to their families. They haven’t forgotten it and I have been there for this reason, to bring a testimony of what it had happened, of their pain, but also of their strength. And above all, because we too don’t have to forget it.
